Format:

Author's Last name, First name. Title of Book. Publisher, Year. Name of Library Database (if applicable) or Website Name, URL (if applicable).

Examples:

Hill, Fred James, and Nicholas Awde. A History of the Islamic World. Hippocrene Books, 2003.

Shakur, Assata. Assata: An Autobiography. Zed Books, 1987. Black Thought and Culture Database.

Henty, George Alfred. The Cat of Bubastes: A Tale of Ancient Egypt. Blackie and Son, 1889. HathiTrust Digital Library, babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015073478847.


Tip: Only include the city of publication if the book was printed prior to 1900, has versions that differ in one country than another, or if it is a rare book.

Example: Hawthorne, Nathaniel. The Scarlet Letter. Boston: Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1850.

Articles/Chapters from an Edited Book

Format:

Author’s Last name, First name. “Title of Chapter or Section.” Title of the Work, edited by First name Last name, Publisher, Year the book was published, page number(s).

Example:

Stern, Katherine. "Toni Morrison's Beauty Formula." The Aesthetics of Toni Morrison: Speaking the Unspeakable, edited by Marc. C. Conner, University Press of Mississippi, 2000, pp. 77-91.
