Morgan Freeman Had a Birthday June 1. Celebrate his career in film this month.

The Bucket List (DVD)

Billionaire Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) and working class mechanic Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) have nothing in common, except they both have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses. While sharing a hospital room together, they decide to make a Bucket List of all the things they have ever wanted to do before they die. In the process of completing the list, both of them heal each other, become unlikely friends, and ultimately find the joy in life.

The Contract (DVD)

Frank Carden (Morgan Freeman), a notorious assassin, is handed a lucrative contract to kill a highly secretive billionaire. But in a twist of fate, Carden is involved in a car accident during the job, and when his gun is found after he is admitted to a hospital, federal marshals arrest him. Meanwhile, ex-cop Ray Keene (John Cusack) is hiking with his son, Chris (Jamie Anderson), when Carden's cohorts try to spring him from custody, and soon the pair is caught in the crossfire.

Glory (DVD)

Two idealistic young Bostonians lead the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, America's first Black regiment in the Civil War. Actors Matthew Broderick and Cabot Elwes play the regiment leaders while actors Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, and Denzel Washington play key members of the unit. The film depicts the soldiers of the 54th from the formation of their regiment to their widely praised fighting in the Second Battle of Fort Wagner.

March of the Penguins (DVD)

Morgan Freeman narrates this award-winning documentary about penguins. Every March in the Antarctic, penguins embark on a journey to find the perfect mates. This courtship will take them hundreds of miles across the continent by foot, one by one in a single file. They will endure freezing temperatures, in brittle, icy winds and through deep, treacherous waters. They will risk starvation and attack by dangerous predators, under the harshest conditions on earth, all to find true love.

Million Dollar Baby (DVD)

Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) is a veteran Los Angeles boxing trainer who keeps almost everyone at arm's length, except his old friend and associate Eddie Dupris (Morgan Freeman). When Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) seeks Frankie's expertise, he does not want to train her. Eventually, he relents, and the two form a close bond that changes them both.

Nurse Betty (DVD)

Actors Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock play hit men in this dark comedy starring Renee Zellweger as a waitress. They kill her husband, a car salesman/drug dealer, when he fails to tell them where drugs are hidden. Zellweger's character witnesses the murder and enters a fugue state assuming the role of a favorite TV character. 

The Shawshank Redemption (DVD)

City banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) arrives at Shawshank Prison in 1947, convicted of two brutal murders and sentenced to life. He forms an unlikely friendship with the prison "fixer" Red (Morgan Freeman). He also becomes popular with the Warden and the prison's guards by using his banking experience to help them amass personal fortunes. The story explores the prison bond that is formed between Andy and Red.

Unforgiven (DVD)

In Big Whisky, Sheriff 'Little Bill' keeps heavy-handed order in this quiet town. Then a couple of cowboys maim a prostitute. Unsatisfied with Bill's justice, the prostitutes put a bounty on the cowboys. The bounty attracts a young gun and an aging killer and his former partner who set out to avenge the woman's attack.
