Image of PosterOn Thursday, Feb. 9th, College of DuPage will celebrate the works of African American novelists, poets, playwrights, essayists, and other writers.

Join us in the Library Alcove from 11 a.m. through 1 p.m. for the College of DuPage 2023 African American Read-In - an opportunity for the College community to read, listen and represent.

Participating in the Read-In is easy:

  1. Pick something to read – Find a poem, an essay, a novel, a story, a song written by an African American artist. Not sure where to begin? Browse the Library’s Beyond the Canon reading list or the lists available on the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
  2. Sign up for a time-slotSign up here. Pick a 10 minute time slot that works for you. You will then be prompted to enter your reading selection. (Not sure what you want to read yet? No problem – you can go back and change your selection and/or your time slot as long as you create a free Signup Genius account. Please do this!)
  3. Show up on Thursday, Feb. 9th  - Read the words on the pages you’ve selected at the time you’ve indicated.

You can also participate by:

  • Attending the Read-In – put the date on your calendar!
  • Bringing your class – add the date to your syllabus!
  • Encouraging your students to attend – we’ll have a sign-in sheet!
  • Inviting your friends, colleagues, and neighbors – the event is open to the public!

Thank you, as always, for supporting the African American Read-In at COD.
