Interlibrary Loan FAQs

Scannned or photocopied articles or chapters do not need to be returned. They are yours to keep.
Return the book to a Circulation Desk in the COD Library.

The lending library sets the due date. If you need the book longer, contact the Interlibrary Loan staff at (630) 942-2166 or by e-mail (ill@cod.edu) at least three days before the due date. The patron is responsible for all fees related to overdue, lost or damaged materials, as determined by the lending library.

Certain items may not be requested through Interlibrary Loan:

  • Books published during the current calendar year.
  • Non-print materials such as videotapes, recorded music, audiotapes, CDs, etc.
  • Whole issues of journals or articles available full-text from COD electronic indexes and databases.
  • E-Books
  • Streaming media

Pick up your requested item at the main floor Circulation Desk in the COD Library after you have been notified by phone or e-mail of its arrival. When an article that you requested is sent to us in electronic form, we will e-mail it to you.

Journal, magazine, or newspaper articles usually take about 5 working days to arrive. Books usually take 10 working days or more. You will be notified by phone or e-mail (your choice) when the item is available.

Interlibrary Loan is a free service offered to anyone who has a current COD Library card. You may apply for a Library card at the Circulation Desk or request a card online.

Article requests are only available to COD students, faculty, and staff.
