LibKey by Third Iron: LibKey Discovery

LibKey Discovery

Here's how LibKey Discovery works:

  • Integration with discovery services: LibKey Discovery integrates seamlessly with major library discovery platforms such as ProQuest, EBSCO Discovery Service, and others.
  • Enhanced article information: In addition to direct PDF links, LibKey Discovery provides options to view the complete issue of the journal in BrowZine and displays journal cover images, enriching the search experience.
  • Open Access awareness: The service is enriched with data from sources like Unpaywall, allowing it to provide links to Open Access versions of articles when subscribed versions are not available.
  • Multiple access options: LibKey Discovery offers various access points, including "Download PDF" for direct PDF access, "Read Article" for HTML versions on publisher sites, and "View Issue Contents" to browse the full journal issue.
  • Cross-platform compatibility: The service works across all browsers and devices, including mobile phones and tablets.

By integrating these features, LibKey Discovery significantly reduces the number of clicks required to access full-text content, saving time and minimizing frustration for researchers. It works behind the scenes to enhance the library's existing discovery tool, making the research process more efficient and user-friendly.

Using LibKey

Start your search in any EBSCOhost database with the full-text filter unchecked. The LibKey link is displayed under titles we do not own.

The LibKey link redirects to the LibKey.io page where the article options are given. Options include full-text PDF, HTML view on the publisher's website, and access to the journal that contains the article.

Clicking on the PDF option will redirect to the PDF document in the browser or download the document to your Downloads folder.

Using LibKey

Not every LibKey link will redirect to the full-text article. If we do not subscribe to the title or the title is not available through open access LibKey will redirect to the publisher's page.

In the example below, the article is not available. In these cases, submitting an Interlibrary Loan Request for the article is an option. Contact our reference team for more help on how to submit an ILL request.

In some cases, LibKey will find the article in one of the library's other databases and redirect to the library catalog page.

In the example below the article appears to be available in Global Newsstream and in Westlaw.

The redirect to Global Newsstream may not redirect to the article right away. It is important to check the search results and retype the title in the search box if necessary. LibKey using DOI information to locate materials, if the DOI is missing or invalid it will not redirect to the article.
