Welcome to Spring 2023! The Library and its faculty, staff, services and resources (online and in-person) are here to support you and your students. Here are some resources, tools and tips to help you get off to a great start!

I'm pleased to announce that the LATEST Medcom Trainex videos (HIPAA, Universal Precautions, Needle Sticks, bloodborne pathogens, A&P, transcultural care and so much more) are now available in the Nursing Video in Education streaming video database.

Some tips

• Search for keywords or video title and then set Filter to Sort by "newest first"
• Click on the desired video, select the "share" button and then copy/paste the permalink OR copy/paste the provided embed code into your Bb course
• Contact me if you'd like assistance locating a new video or to update an older edition -  smithkak@cod.edu

In support of the Global Healthcare Initiatives course (HLTHS 1800-FS030: Ecuador 2023), I created a Global Health Research Guide with input and guidance from Julie Garcia and Mitzi Thomas.

If your program touches on world health, health care disparities, transcultural health, cultural competence or consumer health information in multiple languages, this is the guide for you and your students!

My GOAL this spring is to convince you to make your Bb course shells link DIRECTLY to your program's research guide (and to specific pages like the Research Toolkit featuring APA assistance) instead of the generic link to the Library's homepage.

Help me achieve my goal.

The COD Library's Research Symposium has been an annual event since 2018-2019. During this time, not a single entry has been submitted from the Nursing & Health Sciences division. That is heart breaking to me for two reasons:

1. Our N&HS students create amazing research-based papers, brochures, presentations and projects throughout their programs which deserve to be recognized on a College-wide level
2. If students include a self-reflective research essay (our students are VERY familiar with self reflection), they can win CASH PRIZES between $100 and $750 dollars! [I've yet to meet a student that wouldn't appreciate and benefit from that kind of cash!

PLEASE take the time to talk with and encourage your students to submit a project. Click the image below for all the details (and the entry form)

I'd LOVE to see some of our N&HS students share their hard work and receive recognition on the College level (let's not forget the monetary prizes--CHA-CHING!!). As you can imagine, recognition and participation in this kind of event looks GREAT on student resumes, and college or job applications.

I'm pitching an idea to your division today that I think has immediate and future positive implications for:

• The clinical orientation component of ALL N&HS programs
• N&HS program accreditations
• COD (as an educational institution and leader in educational advancement)
• Local, state-wide and potentially national healthcare educational programs and healthcare organizations

Put simply, I suggest the N&HS programs collaborate to create an open-access video orientation covering all the information that students need to know prior to beginning their clinical experience(s) with local healthcare organizations.

GRANT FUNDING information: Illinois SCOERs: Third and Final Round of Funding

[because did I mention that up to $75,000 dollars per grant team is available?!!]

The submission deadline for the completed application packet, including all requested documents, is February 28, 2023, at 5pm.

If the timing of this particular grant funding opportunity doesn't work, Lauren Kosrow is available to talk to you about alternative funding sources. Don't hesitate to reach out!
