
The Canon Vixia HFR50 is a handheld video camera that can take motion picture video or still shot photography images.
Battery
To access the battery, locate and find the bottom of the camera. Towards the back near the charging block/battery is a switch labeled battery release. To take out the battery, flick the switch and slide the battery out. To replace the battery, follow the arrows on the hollow part where the battery was. The battery also has a matching arrow. Line up the arrows making sure the light gray prongs line up. The battery should begin about halfway into the compartment, not at the base. Slide the battery up to the top so the metal parts connect. You should hear a click.

Power
The camera will automatically turn on if the battery is attached and the display screen is open. If the display screen is open, use the on/off button on the left side of the camera to turn on. The button is covered when the display screen is closed. To turn the camera off, use on/off button.
Lens
On the front of the camera is a slide switch that opens and closes the lens cover. When camera is not in use, keep lens cover closed.

Recording
To start and stop recording, tap the silver button with a red shape on it located to the right of the battery.
To take a photo, press the photo button on the top.

Zooming
To zoom in or out, find the top of the camera and the slider that goes from W - T. To zoom in, slide it towards the letter T (telephoto). To zoom out, slide it towards the letter W (wide lens).

White Balance
To manually white balance, use the touch screen on the display screen. Tap the button on the lower right with the image of a camera with a gear. Scroll down in the menu until the white balance is found. There are four options. Select the last button and point the camera at something white. The white color should fill the screen completely. Press the button. Wait and the camera will be white balanced.
Mode Options
To change the shooting mode or get to the optional functions, use the touch screen on the viewfinder to navigate through menus.

Outputs
Output slots for cables are located at the bottom of the inner panel. You can connect HDMI to broadcast to a television or computer with HDMI input. You can also connect headphones or mic in this area.
Playback
To access scenes/movies, ensure the viewfinder is out/open. Press the small square button with the triangle “Play” icon located under the on/off button next to the SD card slider.

SD Card
To open the SD card slider, ensure the viewfinder is open. To the right of the inner area, there is a slider next to the power button. To open the slider, put your finger in the slot and push to the front of the camera. The SD card can be removed by pressing lightly inward on the edge of the card. The camera will raise and release the card.
